Creating Time and Space for Making Art

In our fast-paced world, finding time to create art can be challenging, but it's crucial to carve out those moments for ourselves! Creating art isn’t just about the final product; it’s about the joy we experience along the way. By scheduling some time, we prioritize our creativity. Whether it’s an hour in the morning or a relaxed weekend afternoon, dedicating time allows our ideas to flow!

Let’s also consider our creative space! Having a dedicated area can enhance our focus and creativity. It doesn’t need to be fancy; a cozy corner with good lighting and supplies works perfectly. Surrounding ourselves with joyful, inspiring items can elevate our creative energy.

Currently, my studio is in my basement. Sounds dingy, right? Not at all! I’m fortunate to have a spacious area where I can spread out without needing to clean up constantly. It’s my happy place. Like any room, it takes planning to transform it into a sanctuary. Exploring other artists’ spaces can provide great ideas.

Luckily, there are frequent opportunities to visit other artists' studios!

Here are links to a couple of my favorites:

Western Avenue Studios: This amazing community of artist spaces is located in a massive 5 story converted mill building in Lowell, Massachusetts. Open Studios is held on the first Saturday of each month, offering a fantastic chance to fill your creative well. So much fun to explore, and visit the shared gallery space and shop. SoWa Artists Guild: This one is new to me, but has been around for a while in Boston's South End. Artists open their studios every Sunday as well as the monthly First Friday events. It’s also a great opportunity to explore this beautiful area of Boston year-round!  Such a beautiful area and creative destination. Here’s the link: https://www.sowaboston.com/sowa-artist-studios

Making time and space for art nurtures our creativity and allows us to explore and express freely. Sometimes, stepping into someone else's space can spark inspiration that will help you discover the work that is waiting to come through you. However you get there, enjoy the discoveries that you will make along the way!
